Sunzu's move to Tunisia in order - Banda

FOOTBALL Association of Zambia (FAZ) general Secretary Fidelis Banda has said there was nothing irregular about striker Felix Sunzu Junior's transfer to Tunisia contrary to Konkola Blades’ statements wrote The Post

Banda said in an interview that FAZ sent Blades all transfer documentation to the club last month.

“Why is Blades behaving like this?” Banda asked. “We have sent them the transfer forms and the old executive members know about this.”
“Since they (Blades executive) are new they should be patient and look for them in their files."

But new Blades secretary, Richard Musukwa, said as far as the club was concerned Sunzu was not cleared to join his new Tunisian club where he has reportedly started playing.

“Our official position on the player (Felix Sunzu) is that he sneaked out of the country without any clearance from the club," he said.

The Sunzu brothers left Zambia just before Christmas last year for trials with an unnamed Tunisian club.

Chinese firm awarded K2.7bn to modernise Konkola stadium

THE Government has awarded a Chinese construction firm, New Era Zambia Limited, a K2.7 billion contract to modernise Konkola Stadium in Chililabombwe.

The rehabilitation works are aimed at bringing the standards of the stadium to world soccer governing body, FIFA acceptable international requirments.

New Era got the contract after a tendering process floated last year.
Officials from the ministry of Works and Supply handed over the site to the contractor at a ceremony held at the stadium in Chililabombwe yesterday.

The handover ceremony was conducted by Buildings Department Quantity Surveyors, Ganizani Mwale and Danny Chulu, who took New Era Zambia director, Thang Wei and his Chinese counterparts on a conducted tour of the stadium to ensure they fully understood the expected scope of work.

Among the people who witnessed the site handover were Chililabombwe district administrative officer, Frank Siatwiinda, and Konkola Blades Football Club chairperson, Mwiinga Mainda and secretary Richard Musukwa.

Works at the stadium will include the replacement and modification of external gates, re-demarcation of terraces, numbering of seats and fencing of the pitch.

Other works include modernisation of dressing rooms, construction of new ablution blocks as well as numerous other specifications in accordance with the world football governing body standards.

Wei promised to do a professional job and ensure the stadium attained internationally accepted standards, much to the satisfaction of the Government and the many football loving Zambians.

Musukwa hailed the Government for supporting Konkola Copper Mines (KCM), the owners of the stadium, in rehabilitating and upgrading the structure, which he described as a source of pride to Chililabombwe and the entire nation.

He urged other cooperating partners to emulate the gesture shown by the Government and partner with the club executive in uplifting the standards of the stadium as it played host to international games.

“We are looking forward to Konkola becoming a modern stadium. We hope once the contractor moves on site, it will become a spectacular stadium that would attract people from all walks of life,” Musukwa said.

FIFA inspectors had earlier condemned the state of Konkola stadium prompting the Government to source for resources aimed at uplifting the structure to international standards.

Last June, 12 fans died at Konkola stadium after a stampede which followed Zambia’s 3-0 victory over Congo Brazzaville.

The incident happened as a horde of fans tried to squeeze through an exit gate after the match. — ZANIS
