Kalu: It's eyes on the ball

The Kabwe Warriors wonder boy is expected to travel to Egypt during the course of next week to sign the deal. The 17 year is currently with the under-23 in Swaziland for the first leg of the CHAN qualifiers tomorrow.

He was the youngest player at the Ghana 2008 Afcon and played the last ten minutes against Sudan. Mayuka was one of the revelation at the FIFA World Youth Cup in Canada last year. He went on to score on his international in September 2007 against Mozambique.

The source indicated that Kabwe Warriors's Egyptian coach Mohamed Fathy(pictured) alerted Zamalek about the young prodigy's talent and exploits.

Mayuka attended trials at English premier league side Reading together with Stophira Sunzu,18 and Germany side Hertha Berlin just after the World Youth Cup. If the deal materialises, Mayuka will be the second Zambian to play for Zamalek. In 1999, former Nkana Red Devils favourite and Chipolopolo winger Fred Mwila Jr was signed by Zamalek. His stay wasn't a success as he received little match action.

Mwila Jr is currently coaching at an academy in Egypt.

Meanwhile another rising star and Mayuka's international teammate William Njovu, 20 is expected to travel to either Portugal or France for trials with unnamed club.

The midfield magician also rose to stardom after an impressive FIFA World Youth Cup in Canada. The Lusaka Dynamos playmaker like Mayuka scored on his international debut against Mozambique. He was part of the AFCON squad in Ghana.

The hardworking and versatile former Edusport youth player had a two weeks stint at French ligue 1 side Rennes just after the World Youth Cup.Rennes have another Zambian Felix Katongo on their books.

Njovu and Mayuka are expected to lead the under-23 tomorrow against Swaziland in the first leg of the CHAN qualifiers.

Goalkeeper Mweene scores for his club

Chipolopolo first choice goalkeeper, Kennedy Mweene coveted a penalty for his South African PSL side Free State Stars in the club's highest ever win when they thrashed Ikapa Sporting 8-1in a Nedbank Cup last-16 tie played in Welkom on Saturday afternoon

In the 56th minute Mweene produced a good save to deny a well-struck Lentjies shot from outside the box.

Elsewhere, Felix Katongo has been named in an 18 man squad for Rennes'ligue 1 match against Monaco on Monday which will start at 20:00 CAT. Katongo who has been allocated jersey 25 was unused substitute in Rennes' 3-1 win over Le Mans last week.

The Zambian playmaker joined Rennes from Angola after an impressive AFCON in Ghana.

Collins Mbesuma of Turkish Supercell side Bursaspor is primed to make the substitutes bench after a fourth missing in action mainly due to injury and out of favour.

Bursaspor will face Ankaragucu in a mid table crash with kick off around 15:00 hours CAT.
