Clifford Mulenga signs for BidVest Wits


Zambia international winger Clifford Mulenga has signed a two year deal with an option to extend for a year with South African premier soccer league club, BidVest Wits from struggling National First Division side, Pretoria University commonly known as Amatuks.

The 20 year was scheduled to travel and sign for Israel top flight team Maccabi Petach-Tikva on 19th March 2008 but because of 'technicalities,' he failed but claimed that he will be signing at the end of the season.

But surprisingly, the 2007 CAF African Young Player of the Year has opted for BidVest were countryman Noah Chivuta is one of the star players.

"Were are delighted to have secured the signature of the CAF young player of the year," BidVest CEO Derek Blanckensee told the official club website.

The left footed dribbling wizard had unsuccessful one year stint at Swedish side Ogryte in 2005. Mulenga joined Tuks academy in 2003 from Chimparamba youth academy.

BidVest Wits nicknamed the 'Clever Boys' are placed 6th and are 10 points behind the league leaders Supersport United.

2008 has seen a high significance of Zambian players being linked with moves abroad. It started with Felix Katongo,23 who has signed a two and half year deal with French side Stade Rennais. Influential midfielder Rainford Kalaba,21 has agreed a five year pre-contract with Portuguese top flight side Sporting Braga.

Lusaka Dynamos midfielder Dornwell Yobe has joined his younger brother, Dominic at Finland second division side Oulu on an initial free six months loan.

New kids on the block duo of Emmanuel Mayuka and William Njobvu are expected to seal move abroad. Mayuka is heading to Egyptian giants Zamalek in the next few weeks or so while Njobvu is expected to attended to trials in either France or Portugal.

2007 African Youth Cup top scorer Fwayo Tembo, 19 joined Tunisian glamour side and the CAF Champions league champions in December last year. While Afcon debutant Felix Sunzu Jr ,21 joined another Tunisian side AS Marsa after the Ghana 2008 Afcon.
