Kola brace sinks Chambishi


Zanaco striker Rogers Kola scored a brace to open his goal scoring account in the KCM/FAZ Premier League. The 19 year old scored in either half to propel Zanaco to a 3-1 win over Aggrey Chiyangi coached side. This is Kola's debut season in the Zambian top flight after graduating from Edusport Youth Academy.

Chambishi boasting two national team call-ups; Sanida Zulu and goalkeeper Joel Kambili in their starting line up where punished in the fourth minute as Kola headed home from a Chisamba Lungu teasing right out singer.

Chambishi did not go to sleep and they equalised through winger Claude Bwalya.

Lungu ran the park for the home side and his hard work was paid off as he unleashed a thunderbolt in the 41st minute to give 'Sensational' Zanaco a 2-1 caution.

After the break, 2006 league winners enjoyed a lot of ball possesion with Ignitious Lwipa, Stophira Sunzu and left back Luka Tembo impressing.

Chambishi could have scored but striker Chipili Mungule's header hit the post and the other end Kola balooned the ball over the bar after a clever Lwipa defence splitting pass.

Lungu started to fade and Zanaco coach Wesley Mondo replaced him with another under-20 star Banda 'Thiery' Henry. The crowd favourite increased the tempo of the match but Chambishi's defence led by Sanida Zulu stood firm.

FAZ Vice President Emmanuel Munaile, a former Zanaco midfielder was in the VIP box watching the match. Chambishi tried to press but Sunzu fustrated their efforts as he intercepted and destroyed almost every meaningful attack they had.

In the 77th minute Lwipa burst into the Chambishi defence only for Zulu to clear for a corner kick. Banda's teasing corner was well meant by Kola who cooly headed it into the net to make it 3-1.

Zanaco now have 9 points while Chambishi are still on 5 points.

In the day's early kickoff, Green Buffaloes beat city-rivals City of Lusaka 2-1 thanks to Megson Ngulube's injury time winner. Buffloes' scored first after playmaker John Musukwa connected Reuben Tembo's cross to make it 1-0 at the stroke of half time.

International midfielder Ian Bakala equalised for 'City Ya Moto' in the 56th minute but the soldiers earned the vital three points after Ngulube scored to make it 2-1.Buffloes are now joint third on 9 points with Zanaco.

At the same venue Edwin Imboela Stadium, the second match involving Nkwazi and Roan United ended in a goalless stalemate.

Red Arrows coach Mathews Phiri's job is hanging on a spinder thread after he was given this afternoon match as a must win or risk losing his job and things turned out to be sour for Phiri as early as the 7th minute when Norman Malama put Green Eagles ahead.

Twenty seven minutes later Eagles where 2-0 up courtesy of a Brian Moya goal. In the 60th minute Arrows playmaker Timothy Mbewe reduced the scoreline to 2-1 but that wasn't enough to deny Eagles their first win of the season but more important Phiri's fate.

On the Copperbelt, border town derby between Konkola Blades and Nchanga Rangers match was postponed as Konkola Stadium is undergoing rehabilitation in readness for Zambia's home tie against Swaziland in June.

In Kabwe, the people's team Kabwe Warriors recorded their second consecutive goalless draw against Lusaka Dynamos. On Wednesday, Warriors were held 0-0 by Zesco United.

'Team Ya Ziko' crushed 'Kalampa' 2-0 at Trade Fair grounds in Ndola. Former Arrows winger Lottie Phiri and Signs Chibambo were on target for Zesco United. 'Zescolo' maintained their second spot with 11 points.Phiri has now scored three goals in the league

League leaders Young Arrows maintained their unbeaten run after they held struggling Power Dynamos to a goalless stalemate at Arthur Davies Stadium. The Alfred Mulao boys are now three points clear on the summit with 14 points while Power have 7 points.
