On loan Zanaco trio of Yorum Mwila, Banda 'Thiery' Henry and Luka Tembo have left the country to attend trials at South Africa Premier Soccer League side BidVest Wits. The trio left country this morining. The trials are been facilitated by Chimparamba.
The trio are on loan from Chimparamba Youth Academy which is run by two brothers; Nenani and James Banda. Nenani is based in South Africa while James is a Lusaka businessman.
According to sources the trio teenages are scheduled to spend 10 days at BidVest Wits before returning. While in South Africa, other PSL sides will have a look at the exciting whiz kids as well.
The three starlets also expected to attend trials later in July at Dannish giants FC Copenhagen.
At BidVest Wits, former Zambia under-23 skipper Noah Chivuta is one of the key players for the Eric Tinkler coached side. Another former Chimparamba graduate Clifford Mulenga will be joining the 'Clever Boys' on July 1, 2008.
Last season, Yorum Mwila( Politician B.Y Mwila's son) and Luka Tembo( former international winger Andrew Tembo's young brother) spent the whole season onloan at Lusaka Dynamos while winger Banda 'Thiery' Henry was a darling at Kabwe Warriors alongside Emmanuel Mayuka.
At Zanaco, Mwila has only made one substitute appearance. Mwila a former under-17 captain last year was part of the George Lwandamina under-20 squad that came fourth at the 2007 African Youth Cup in Congo subsquently qualifying for World Youth Cup. But the young starlet was not part of the squad. In some quarters he has been described as the quickest Zambian player at the moment.
Henry Banda was a local hero in Kabwe last season. He capped a fine debut season in the top flight with a call up to the under-20 which was eliminated in the first round in December 2007 at Cosafa under-20 championship.
Nicknamed 'Thiery' after former Arsenal Thiery Henry, the wing wizard is a modern type of a winger in the mode of the likes Cristiano Ronaldo, Nani, Ricardo Quaresma and Robinho. He is comfortable on both wings where he dazzles opposition full backs with his step overs, tricky and expansive footwork.
Luka Tembo was part of the Cosafa under 20. Tembo is the only natural left footed full back Zambia has at all international levels. Both Tembo and 'Thiery' are regulars at Sunset Stadium.
Some of the notable Chiparamba graduates are Boyd Mwila (Ogryte,Sweden), Edwin Phiri (Ljungske,Sweden), Dominic Yobe (fc Oulu, Finland), Mulenga ( BidVest Wits, RSA) and Davies Nkausu (Pretoria University, RSA)
Nkana appoints Phiri coach
FORMER Zambia national soccer team head coach Patrick Phiri has been appointed head coach for KCM/FAZ Super Division side Nkana.
In an interview with The Post, Nkana secretary Ken Mwansa said his executive had decided to hire Phiri as a head coach due to the side’s inconsistent league performance.
Mwansa said current coach Fewdays Musonda would now be Phiri’s assistant while Norman Bwalya takes up his position as team manager.
Musonda was hired as Nkana head coach in March after taking over from Beston Chambeshi who left to take up a lucrative offer in Botswana.
“We have decided to beef up the technical bench by appointing Patrick Phiri as head coach. There have been inconsistencies in the performance of the team because they lack guidance, so we decided to bring in someone with experience,î Mwansa said.
He said although Phiri had not yet signed a contract with Nkana on his appointment, the coach had agreed on the terms and conditions of the job.
“We are just from meeting him and we have agreed on the terms and conditions though he has not signed the contract yet,” Mwansa said.
And when contacted Phiri said he would use his experience to revive the team.
He said Nkana had always been his club, adding that he was happy to be more involved with the club.
“I have always been with Nkana but this time it’s a matter of been more involved, and with the little experience I have, I hope to revive the team,” said Phiri.
Nkana are currently in 11th place on the table with eight points from seven games.
This will be Phiri’s second stint as Nkana coach after being in charge from 1997 to 2002 in which period he won two league titles with the team, in 1999 and 2001.
Phiri has been unattached since his contract as Zambia coach ended on March 31 this year and the Kalusha Bwalya led executive decided not to renew it.
Phiri took over from Kalusha Bwalya as Zambia trainer in 2006, barely two and half years after he was sacked from the job after Chipolopoloís failure to qualify to the 2004 Africa Cup of Nations in Tunisia.
During his reign, Phiri won the COSAFA Castle Cup, the CECAFA championship and qualified Zambia to the 2008 Ghana Africa Cup where the team was eliminated in the first round.
