Mutapa attending trials at Amazulu

Lusaka Dynamos’ attacking midfielder Perry Mutapa is believed to be in South Africa attending trials at PSL side Amazulu.

The former Orlando Pirates playmaker left the country last week. Mutapa sustained a thigh injury in league match against Green Buffaloes which forced him to be withdrawn at halftime on April 19.

He was scheduled to return to action last week but a check at Queenmead Stadium revealed that the former Zambia under-20(1997-98) captain is still absent from ‘The Elite’ training sessions.

Sources at Queensmead Stadium told Zambiafootball.com that ‘The Principal’ has trekked to South Africa where he is hoping to impress Amazulu and 1996 Afcon winning coach Clive Barker. Barker, who is assisted by his former Bafana Bafana captain Neil Tovey as Technical Director.Amazulu, already has another Zambian goalkeeper Kalililo Kakonje on their books.

Mutapa rose to stardom while playing for Patrick Phiri’s Lusaka Dynamos before he joined Portuguese side Farense in 1999. While at ‘The Elite’ he captained the Zambia under-20 side to two Cosafa titles (97 & 98).

After spending a season in Porugal, he returned to Police outfit Nkwazi but he was a shadow of his old self at Edwin Imboela Stadium. But when many pundits thought ‘this was the end era for the Golden Boy,’he surprised and had the last laugh when he signed for South Africa’s glamour side Orlando Pirates in August 2002 after he impressed Serbian born coach Kosta Papic.

At the Bucs, he rediscovered his form and the Amabhakabhaka faithful acknowledged his contribution in the diamond midfield that consisted Nigerian born Onyenkachi Okonkwo and South Africa’s own Bennedict ‘Tso’ Vilakazi by chatting ‘The Principal’

While he was at Pirates, he fulfilled his pontential of wearing the green and copper jersey at international under then coach Kalusha Bwalya though he missed out of the 2006 Afcon squad.

Last year he joined Mvela golden league side, FC AK but failed to have a regular place which prompted him to return home.

The local league has seen the return of former international. At Lusaka Dynamos, Mutapa has been joined by veteran campaigners; Masautso Tembo and Cosmos Banda while at Nkwazi, Edward ‘Bubble’ Kangwa has been impressive.

Power Dynamos trio of Rotson ‘Kizo’ Kilambe, Laughter Chilembi and Francis Kombe only shined on match day 1 but have failed to adjust save for Kombe who has shown a glimpse of his old form.

Outspoken Elijah Tana is still short of match fitness at Nchanga Rangers while former Russia based Gift Kampamba has only played three matches for Nkana.

SC Paderborn still want to keep Sinkala?

Forgotten prodigy son and Germany based anchorman Andrew Sinkala is still wanted by his club SC Paderborn 07.
Paderborn are certain of being demoted from Bundesliga 2 this season and are desperate to hold on to the former Nchanga Ranger star player despite Sinkala missing the second half of the season after he was diagnosed with Tuberculosis (T.B.) in January this year.

But reports from Germany indicate that, Sinkala wants to remain in the Bundesliga 2 and unnamed clubs are after his signature.

Sinkala was the key man in the engine room alongside Sweden based Isaac Chansa in the 3-0 thrashing of Bafana Bafana courtesy of a Chris Katongo hatrick.

The 1998 FAZ Premier League winner with hometown club Nchanga Rangers missed the Ghana 2008 Afcon through illness (pneumonia).

Sinkala started his European adventure at Bavarian giants Bayern Munich who snapped him in 1999 after impressing at the 1999 World Youth Cup in Nigeria. At Bayern, he was in the same reserve team with Manchester United midfielder Owen Hargreaves.

He spent two years at Bayern before joining FC Cologne and two season ago he joined Paderborn.
