20 Zambian Basketball Coaches graduated after undergoing ten days of training under the auspices of the International Olympic Committee and the International Basketball Federation. The programme was a FIBA/IOC Advanced basketball coaches course held at the National Sports Development Centre in Lusaka conducted by Kenyan instructor Ronnie Owino. Prominent among the participants were Aggrey Kabalata, head coach of the 2007 Sprite Challenge Champions Green Eagles, Assistant men's national team trainer Johnny Zimba and Kenneth Nkandu of Lusaka City Council Basketball Club.

The World Boxing Council (WBC) plans to construct a boxing school in Zambia in honor of the late boxing legend Lottie "Gunduzani" Mwale, according to a report by the Post newspaper on Sunday. Houcine Houichi, WBC vice president, who is on a visit, was quoted as saying that the construction of the boxing school - WBC Lottie Mwale School of Boxing, will commence after the consent of the Zambian government has been received. According to minister Namulambe, "the WBC is free to start the construction works immediately."

A team of 20 marathoners will represent Botswana at the Southern Region Cross Country competition pencilled for Zambia on February 23. The runners have been selected during some national meets. The team will depart on February 20 and return on February 25. Bobby Gaseitsiwe, the senior sports development officer for the Botswana Athletics Association (BAA), said the competition -- sponsored by Botswana Development Corporation -- would be used as a yardstick to qualify for World Cross Country championships slated for Scotland on March 30. It is their challenge to excel during the Zambian meet as that will definitely book themselves place to the world meet, he said. Gaseitsiwe said if the athletes run good times at any of the competitions, they will qualify for Olympic Games. He said BAA was hoping that Leamile Radimpa, who will be taking part in the Standard Chartered Greatest Race on Earth final leg in Hongkong on February 16, will qualify.
