We received this message from Samuel A. Odunsi. Please let us know if you would like to review this book.

Education is sometimes called the "great equalizer." This belief is understood to mean that Zambians who receive university education will perform equally as well as people from the developed countries with the same paper qualifications. This is true for the practice of technique, such as medicine and engineering. But is it true for the practice of management, administration, and entrepreneurship?

Unfortunately, the answer is no. Clearly, there is more behind the performance of Westerners and some Asians than the mere display of technical skills. This is why Westerners or Asians are often required to supervise Zambians in order for many things to work properly in the economy.

Whenever this issue is raised, however, the answer we get is that something unknown is wrong with Zambians or that the culture of Zambia is not ready for development. This is the answer we get from the intellectuals and from people who claim to care about the economic development of Zambia.

This book shows that these answers are wrong and that nothing is wrong with the people of Zambia or their culture. It is also argued that university education works the same for the people of Zambia as it does for the people of the developed countries. Instead, something is missing in Western education. People in the developed countries make up for the difference not because of what they learn in school but because of what they learn in their culture. But since the culture of Zambia is different from the culture of the developed countries, there has been no way to bridge the gap. Western education does not bridge the gap.

No more should Zambians accept incomplete Western education and blame themselves for its failure.

Lusaka, Zambia...

In my opinion for the practice of management, administration, and entrepreneurship in a foregin country, rather than being qualified at university level, a lot of its success depends also on how well one undrstands the local culture and practices and in general, peaple have to be able to identify themselves in you as well. I believe the most common problem in this area is simple cultural missunderstandings....
