It's ice-cold in Russia, cold in the US, hot in the deserts, sunny in the Tropics of Africa, the streets of Europe are palatably decorated and name it, nonetheless many hearts are preparing for Christmas some even borrowing huge sums. Yes, I'll not deny but admit that it used to be my most precious day of the year in childhood: I'd be assured of new clothes(and will remain clean the whole day), unoccasional and rare meal, some balloons, popcorns, soft drinks, fireworks-whatever a child dreams of. To me it was a time of FUN, to enjoy myself, spending the whole night playing and doing Christmas plays with friends. I was born and found people celebrating this day, so i joined, after all it was fun. This is a typical Christmas for most kids, an African kid per say.
But today I lie in my bed counting the roof tiles trying to find out the meaning of the whole Christmas thing. Post cards and gifts are no longer a big deal. I don't really need new clothes to see this day called Christmas, all I need is to wake up on this day though little do I know what it takes to wake up, to see a new. How many have failed to wake up on this day? Believe you me, it's not the alarm or the noise around that wakes you up, not even the noise of the traffic jam across the street, neither the noise of the aeroplane that might fly over your humble home. You might know how to wake up but surely not what it takes to wake up, only He knows. Someone gives a go ahead for you and me to wake up, be it on whatever day, otherwise we would continue sleeping. That alone at least is worth noting.
A man called Paul in the Bible wrote to the Corinthians as follows:  "When I was a child, I used to speak like a child, think like a child, reason like a child; when I became a man, I did away with childish things." 1 Corinthians 13:11. Yeah, it seems nothing attached to Christmas but one thing I understand as an adult is that it's not just a matter of celebrating, rather who's the reason for the season-the reason why you celebrate. Is it like me when I was a child when all was a matter of fun? I strongly hope not so. Many people DON'T even know why they celebrate Christmas even though plain English shows that there's no other word in Christmas than CHRIST. So, is Christ born in your heart today? It is bad news of course to tell you that it's pointless and ignorant enough to celebrate Christmas if you haven't accepted Christ Himself in your heart-that's a hard core TRUTH and not a fact because the Bible which describes the Christ celebrated on Christmas plainly proclaims it that God doesn't look at the outward appearance, but the heart. For the sacrifices of the LORD GOD are a broken spirit and a contrite heart, that He will not despise, He doesn't delight in burned offering or sacrifice. The main reason why Christ Jesus came on that day was for Him to be born in your/my heart,to save you and me, not for you and I to merely celebrate His day of birth on Earth. Each year Christmas comes and gives people a opportunity to accommodate the Lord Jesus in their hearts.
So what are you looking towards this Christmas? Just celebrate since it has been like that ever since? Just have fun like a kid? Or acknowledge Him who brought this day? One man said: "If I was a rainbow, I would show my colours for." What are you ready to do for Him since you are a human being? Are we even ever grateful? Let Him be born in your heart this season.
I choose to thank Him this day, to appreciate Him for His love and grace, giving up His life for me a sinner.
Stay blessed and have a wonderful December, the last month of this year 2007.
