We received the following message from D Bwalya.
Cheap second-hand motor vehicles imported into the country are an environmental time bomb. These cars are not just being sold cheaply or at times being given freely but in reality, are being dumped in Zambia. This in a long term will pose an environment hazard if measures are not put in place now to restrict these motor vehicles being dumped in our beautiful country. To start with, we do not even have sites where these vehicles can be crushed or scrapped. It is sad to note that today on almost every local Zambian media portal (website) there are advertisement for importation of these vehicles in the country. I guess it is good business for them and the tax man but let us not forget to think about tomorrow, we need to leave a clean environment for our children. Second-hand motor vehicles are sometimes not always road worthy and are not the best solution for the improvement of transport in Zambia.- Concerned Zambian
