Lack of Money is simply the physical manifestation of the above poverties. Poverty is a spirit, an attitude, a characteristic and very often it is a generational affair.
If you were the Zambian president, how would you try to educate and improve the mindset of an average Zambian based on the 12 types of poverty?
1. Introduce free school for all with assistance for school programs including purchase of all basic supplies.
2. Create a Cultural Values Foundation with the mission to support and promote indigenous Zambian culture and spiritual values.
3. Provide rural and needy urban people with mentors and exemplars to inspire and inform.
4. Provide travel grants for Zambians to go to places such as the US and UK, to make them realize the unique beauty and value of Zambia to the international community.
5. Implement a "twin city" program with countries that have an interest in supporting the fight against poverty.
I think we are in this position right now because all the Zambian principles have been compromised. I agree with Roger that in order for us to tackle the 12 types of poverty, we have to go back to basics and take care of our people. We are a third world country that is not growing mentally and politically because people look at the same corrupt leaders and think if i can get to their position, i will become rich. Leaders need to stop putting their interest above those of the poverty stricken Zambian villagers. Zambia has not grown due to greed. Mubita, the Zambia that we new 27 years ago, is actually getting worse that it was when Kaunda left. No more scholarships for kids to go to school abroad when they perform extremely well. We still have the same sillicism at the university, students believe we can solve problems by rioting and breaking peoples cars. The voter apathy continues on, Kaponyas are the ones who go to the polls. We need to educate Zambia. Bring back the Ministry of Community development, send people to work with village communities for their betterment and bring young leaders with fresh ideas.
Please lets try to persuade the people of Zambia to bring into parliament people who can change our country.
Let's make our leaders accountable. Let's stop them and we must make them realise that they work for us. We are a democracy and we need to start behaving like one. We need to start looking at our leaders in their eyes and ask them what they would do about Orphans, crime , street kids, hospitals and lack of expansions.
Nigeria has a University in each State(Province) what are we doing about that? A large percentage of Zambians do not even go to a regular job on a daily basis due to lack of opportunies and lack of education.
The Zambian Mines where sold for a fraction of the actual value and the minign towns are now ghost towns, with a poor road network, poorly maintained townships, poor drainage systems,e.t.c. We also sold the mines and let the poeple of Zambia work like slaves for the Chinese. We have just brought back the slave mentally to an already impoverished people. It's a shame.
We need to work hard and uplift our people. Hold their hand and tell them that things will get better but also let's see some progress in education, roads, hospitals, pensions, insurance,e.t.c.
Anyway, more later.
